For years now, local residents and Tasmanian tourists have been visiting Hursey Seafoods for the freshest seafood on the Cradle Coast. Offering fish sales, a spacious second-level dining room, function area and delicious takeaway options, Hursey Seafoods provide all avenues for people to taste the freshest fish off the waters of the picturesque town of Stanley.

Hursey Seafoods is a family business; it's run by people who are committed to bringing home the freshest catch of the day.

The story behind the seafood

In 1974 James and Valerie Hursey relocated from Dover in south-east Tasmania to the northern coastal town of Stanley. In 1987, with a growing business of fishing fleet, a commercial factory, takeaway counter and restaurant were established in memory of James and Valerie's son, Patrick, who was lost at sea attempting to rescue an adventurer rowing across Bass Strait.
In June 2015, the property was extensively renovated. Previously the restaurant could sit 35 and now it seats 100 diners, overlooking the bay and nestled under  Stanley's iconic landmark, "The Nut." Hursey Seafoods’ fleet of nine vessels catches southern rock lobster, giant crab, stripey trumpeter, gummy shark, flathead and other local reef fish. Their lobster is retained and lives in sea tanks, which ensures supply is available all year.

Over the years Hursey Seafoods has curated a distinct selection of menu items that visitors would find hard to get elsewhere. They catch and source the freshest, more delicious seafood, so each dish you select at the restaurant leaves you satisfied.
Whether you’re looking to feed your entire family or grab some fresh seafood from their takeaway counter, Hursey's has you covered. Prices may vary, depending on the catch and size; particularly with lobster, but it's always worth every penny!
When you arrive at Hursey Seafoods’ downstairs foyer, you're greeted with the takeaway counter and local fish in the display tanks. There you can purchase fish fillets, lobster, oysters, scallops and prawns to bring back to your own accommodation to prepare. If you're choosing to dine in, when you head upstairs (there's lift for those in need) you arrive at the dining area. With plenty of window seats and views out to the water, you're going to want to settle in and stay a while!
While you sit back and relax, enjoy a local wine or beer to pair with your seafood. The friendly staff at Hursey's will help you pick the perfect sip for your tastes. In addition to their premium seafood, you can also enjoy char-grilled local Cape Grim steak or local Nichols free-range chicken.

When can you visit?

Hursey Seafoods is open 364 days each year (closed on Christmas). Their hours of operation are 11:30AM-7:15PM daily.
