It's only natural to crave sweet treats... especially ones that are so perfectly and deliciously crafted. Lucky for us, we have many local creators of sweets and you don't have to travel far to fulfil your sweet-tooth. With fresh ample fresh berries, local dairy and cream as well as talented chefs and bakers at our farm gate shops, the Cradle Coast region has the perfect recipe of ingredients to deliver some fine flavours for those who crave the sweeter side of things. We've picked a list of three favourite stops in our patch to taste sweets at.

VDL Creamery

Van Diemens Land Creamery

Established by a dairy-farming family in 2005, you can find our award-winning ice cream in reputable cafes and restaurants around Tasmania. Tasmanian Aritsan ice cream... All of our products are handmade with the finest ingredients to produce quality, great-tasting ice cream. Our goal is simple: create delicious flavours that bring a smile to your face. With a flavour to tempt every tastebud, Van Diemens Land Creamery, we understand that everyone is different. We have different tastes, dietary requirements and 'favourites'. To ensure you don't miss out on having a scoop of our handmade happiness, we make many flavours for you to choose from, including our current core flavours below. Every day, we offer 24 flavours at our cafe and each day you come in they will be different. If you're lucky, you might even be able to see how it's all made through our production room window at our cafe and factory in Elizabeth Town.

House of Anvers

The House of Anvers contains a real chocolate taste sensation. Located in Latrobe, the property Anvers now operates in was formally known as "Wyndarra Lodge" which was built in 1931. Set on two hectares of old gardens, the property features beautiful trees from around the world.

When you visit the House of Anvers you can actually see the confectionery staff tempering, moulding and decorating the chocolates, truffles, pralines, fudges and much more! The Anvers tasting centre showcases their products and you can try free samples as well as browse through their selection of other tasty Tasmanian products.

Anvers is open 7 days a week from 9am – 5pm and while visiting, you can also visit their small museum of chocolate and learn how chocolate came to be in the form we know it today. The museum takes you on a journey from the Aztec Indians, then to when chocolate was only consumed as a liquid in the 1700's and on to Henry Nestle who mixed the chocolate with milk in 1875, and to how we know it today.

Turners Beach Berry Patch

Just 10 minutes from Devonport in Tasmania’s North West, you can experience both culinary perfection from a cafe menu, as well as an authentic berry farm experience. You can dine at the restaurant, indulging in a variety of freshly made sweets from the dessert fridge, and then wander into the fields to hand-pick your own berries. There is also a farm shop on site where you can purchase pre-picked fruit and other house made and locally sourced goodies.

The Berry Patch has lovely ambience and outdoor environment for relaxing. You can sit under the covered deck while the kids play or choose to dine in the heated yurt or on one of the outdoor swings.

Throughout the season you can always find something wonderfully delicious going on at the farm shop, so don't miss stopping here to sample the sweet tastes of nature. The talented team makes and bakes each treat in house, and they’re always creating something new and yummy. A visit to the Berry Patch isn’t complete without trying their house-made berry ice cream. Occasionally, they offer a vegan coconut berry ice cream, ask in store if it’s available on your next visit.
