Button’s Cottage Rural Retreat is situated at Gaunts, a 500-acre working pastoral property on the hinterland of the central northwest coast of Tasmania. Button’s Cottage, built-in 1886, retains the original external features as a humble homestead and now has an elegant interior. It has been a dream to renovate the cottage and to now be able to open the doors to extend a very warm welcome to our guests.
Fully refurbished in 2008 with modern amenities, Button’s Cottage retains the original split paling kitchen, ceiling and walls of circa 1886. The cottage offers self-contained accommodation for up to four people.
Located in Tasmania’s north-west central coast hinterland, 32 kilometres from the coast, Gaunts Farm exhibits 190 hectares of agricultural and pastoral land featuring fertile red volcanic basalt soil, high annual rainfall of 1300mm, a high altitude of 500 metres and some of the cleanest air in the world. The Castra Rivulet flows through Gaunts Farm, featuring Dynamo, Step, Castra, Cascade and Liabootah Waterfalls.
This provides a spectacle of water that rises and falls quickly after abundant rainfall to deliver a strong sense of place and soul, as acknowledged by many visitors over time. Access to Gaunts Farm, via Gaunts Rd displays a temperate rainforest verge, maintained for its historical and botanical value is a showcase of annual native blossom with occasional snowfalls.
