Ulverstone, Tasmania Australia 7315

Ulverstone is a bustling, coastal town at the mouth of the Leven River with picturesque coastal parks and a reputation among antique collectors. The rural area around Ulverstone is very English-like with rolling hills and a patchwork quilt of fields of rich, red soil ideal for agriculture. Inland are several small mixed farming communities, many breeding dairy and beef cattle or growing potatoes or onions. The town is known for its coastal parks and swimming beaches ideal for families and there’s good fishing in the river and estuary.

Ulverstone also has a reputation amongst antique collectors with fine furniture and artwork available, as well as rare antiquarian books to browse. A feature of Ulverstone is the War Memorial clock at the entrance to the town, while the riverside Anzac Park displays lasting memorials of Australia’s military history in pleasant parkland surrounds.

Inland from Ulverstone are Gunns Plains Caves. These limestone caves have an underground creek and unique wildlife that includes the occasional giant freshwater crayfish. Nearby is the 275-metre deep Leven Canyon with awe-inspiring views as well as several waterfalls accessible by car or walking track.

Ulverstone is a 15-min drive (21 km) west of Devonport.
