Early breakfast in Devonport Tasmania

6 October 2026 Sass

Welcome, you’ve arrived. Take a moment to breathe in that fresh North West air, then get your first taste of Tassie with breakfast in Devonport Tasmania.

The Spirit of Tasmania usually docks between 6am and 6.30am with disembarkation commencing around 30 minutes after that. Getting off can take up to 30 minutes, so you’ll generally be on the road around 7am to 7.30am. If you want breakfast in Devonport straight away, there are cafes and eateries located a 10 to 15 minute drive from the terminal that will be open and ready to take your order. Below you’ll find our recommendations, all serving a proper breakfast and importantly, really good coffee. We’ve included driving distances from the terminal and, if you’re travelling with a caravan or camper you’ll also find parking information.

Which Devonport Tasmania cafes open early, by 6am or 7am?

Fundamental Espresso is your early riser, open at 6am most days (more information on exact opening times below), with Laneway and Drift open at 6.30am. Leaping Goat Coffee and Anvers Chocolate Factory open at 7am, however it’s worth noting that Leaping Goat is closed on weekends, so suitable for weekday arrivals. An honourable mention goes to the Tasmanian Food and Wine General Store which opens at 9am and is a combined cafe and providore (it’s also right around the corner from Laneway, so you can get your early coffee and breakfast fix while you wait for the providore to open). Arriving on a Sunday? Laneway, Drift and Anvers are your options.

What is the closest breakfast spot to the Spirit of Tasmania terminal?

The closest spot is Anvers, about 10 minutes from the terminal and with plenty of parking for vehicles, caravans and campers. If you are travelling in a regular vehicle and without a caravan or camper, Laneway, Fundamental Espresso, and the Tasmanian Food and Wine General store are all a 10 minute drive from the terminal in the Devonport CBD, with parking closeby. Drift Cafe is a 15 minute drive located at ‘The Bluff’ with views across the ocean and surrounding headland. Leaping Goat Coffee is a 10 minute drive and located on the same side of the river as the terminal.

Where can I park a caravan or motorhome near Devonport cafes?

Anvers, Leaping Goat Coffee and Drift Cafe are the most accessible for caravans and campers. Anvers offers dedicated parking for campers and caravans, while Leaping Goat Coffee and Drift Cafe have nearby suitable on street parking. To access the remaining cafes located nearby to the CBD, park at the Victoria Parade Boat Ramp and Car Park then take a 10 minute stroll to your chosen breakfast spot.

What should I do in Devonport Tasmania after breakfast, before heading west?

Walk off your sea legs along the Bluff. Drift sits on Mersey Bluff, so if you’ve had breakfast there, you’re already at the start of the walk to the red and white Mersey Bluff Lighthouse, with views across Bass Strait. Also on the Bluff, the Tiagarra Walking Track passes ancient rock carvings (located behind the Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre, which is open by appointment). For more of the region’s history, visit the Bass Strait Maritime Museum and Home Hill, the preserved 1916 home of former Prime Minister Joseph Lyons. A short drive away, the Tasmanian Arboretum is one of the best places to see a platypus in its natural habitat. The 66-hectare tree park and nature reserve is also home to more than 80 species of native birds.
