What is there to do in Devonport? If you’re heading to Devonport (or Burnie) for the Australian Bowling Nationals, you’re in for more than just a great competition. You’re landing in one of Tassie’s friendliest and most scenic little cities… a place where the locals smile, the food is fresh, and the views stretch from Sea to Sky.
Your Home Turf is the Devonport Country Club a cracking spot not far from everything you’ll want to see, taste and do while not on the green. It’s comfortable, convenient and a great base while you’re here.
Devonport’s not just a pit stop, it’s a three-time winner of Tasmania’s Top Tourism Town award. It’s also the home port of the Spirit of Tasmania, the front door to the state’s North West, and surrounded by some of the world’s best produce (seriously… you’re never far from an epicurean farmgate experience, an award winning winemaker or cidery around here).
Eat like you’re on holiday – when it’s time to refuel, you’ve got options. Go to the hub in Market Square Southern Wild Distillery, Island State Brewing or a good feed at Frankie J’s, or kick back with street food flavour and a cheeky cocktail at Mr Good Guy. All are close to the water, big on taste, and loved by locals. After-Game Exploring, don’t just bowl and bail – there’s plenty to explore. Take the Bluff walk to the lighthouse, savour the beautiful views, or spot a local Penguin at the Lillico Viewing shelter at dusk.

Check out Tiagarra, the Aboriginal cultural centre with rich local stories. Ride the Don River Railway for a bit of vintage charm. Visit Home Hill, once the home of former PM Joseph Lyons – a little slice of history with a cracking garden.
Got a free arvo or day off? Devonport’s a launch pad for the Tasting Trail Tasmania – a self-guided tour of the region’s best and freshest food and drinks, direct from the farmer himself. Just down the road you’ll find – Spreyton Cider & restaurant for crisp cider tastings, Prickly Mo – a laid-back vineyard with serious charm, Leaping Goat Coffee – top-notch coffee roasted on site and Anvers Chocolate, rich Belgian-style treats made in Tassie.
Or if you’re feeling adventurous, Cradle Mountain is only a short drive away and perfect for a scenic day trip into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
